About the Lamplighter Humanitarian Award

The WSEM Lamplighter Humanitarian Award was established in 1994 to celebrate a community of philanthropic leaders who exemplify integrity and demonstrate a commitment to the community through their philanthropic efforts.

WSEM selects an individual annually who merits acceptance of the Lamplighter Award on the basis of his/her contribution to the entire social service delivery system in Greater Cleveland.

The quote on the award, "You know that they have been there by the lights they've left behind,” is applicable to those who voluntarily select to work to brighten the lives of so many.

Past honorees have included Edward F. Bell, Ameritech, Thomas C. Sullivan, RPM International Inc., James M. Delaney, Deloitte & Touche, George F. Wasmer, Lake Erie Screw Corporation, Donna Kelly and Anthony C. Rego, Rini Rego Supermarkets, John C. Dannemiller, Applied Industrial Technologies, Dr. Theodore J. Castele, NewsChannel 5 WEWS, Jack Kahl, Manco, Inc., Maria and Sam Miller of Forest City Enterprises, Alex Machaskee of The Plain Dealer, Karen and John Kirk and most recently Sandy Sullivan of the Sullivan Scholars Program.
