be a food center volunteer

An extensive network of volunteers generously donate their time at the WSEM Food Centers at Brookside, Community Corner and Near West.  Each year, more than 400 volunteers provide more than 15,000 service hours for the three WSEM Food Centers.

Volunteers help with many duties, including:

  • Unloading the food from the Cleveland Foodbank delivery truck
  • Stocking shelves
  • Bagging groceries
  • Intake & reception work
  • Sorting & displaying clothing and household items
  • Assisting in the maintenance and cleaning of the Centers, and
  • Serving on each Center's Program Advisory Councils (PACs) as well as the WSEM Food Center Advisory Council.

Together with hard working volunteers from area churches, schools and the community, the Centers also recruit help from various sources that include: Court Community Service, County Work Experience Program, Catholic Charities Employment and Training Transitional Jobs Program, and the City of Cleveland WIA program that employs at-risk teenagers in the summer.
