The WSEM Centers of Excellence provide hunger and crisis management, early childhood education and workforce training. Each WSEM program is designed to help people through life's many challenges. Our services provide the education, skills, and assistance necessary to encourage positive and lasting change in the lives of the families we serve. Counseling Solutions is integrated in each Center of Excellence. |

Excellence. What does it mean? What is it? How do you measure it?
Over the past 18 months, West Side Ecumenical Ministry (WSEM) has been in the process of defining our service sustainability. While this has been a difficult task, WSEM has been determined to not only understand what services were sustainable, but to be sure that thos services fell within our areas of expertise, and could meet our own standards of Excellence.
WSEM is recognized by accrediting and certification bodies as very good, but what would constitute Excellence in programming above and beyond what already exists? We are determined to find out.
WSEM has learned many things in establishing our own standard of Excellence. Mostly, we learned that those definitions are not easily discovered. Surely, there are many ways to measure excellence--outcomes, surveys, community input, constituent input--these are just a few. WSEM is committed to finding the answerso we can assure all the people we serve that we are doing are very best to help meet their needs. This is a daunting task but one well worth the effort.
Throughout this process, WSEM has defined three centers of Excellence by which it will deliver services: El Barrio/Workforce, WSEM Food Centers, and WSEM Early Childhood Education. In addition, we will continue our counseling center, which crosses over all three. This year, the staff of each Center of Excellence will be working to define Excellence by our own measures. We will begin collecting data to support those efforts in early 2008 and report to you annually our results. This will allow us to keep you abreast of our progress.
